“The most damaging phrase in the language is ‘We’ve always done it this way’.”
Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper (1906-1992), pioneering computer scientist, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom
The financial services landscape is changing, and rapidly.
Customer expectations are constantly shifting and technology is transforming the way business is done.
As a result, all financial services companies are being forced to re-think their business models to compete most effectively and best serve their customers. Sustainable and competitive asset finance businesses must be agile, adaptable and be prepared to change quickly.
This year’s Leasing Foundation Annual Conference, THINK/FORWARD, focuses on the changing landscape of asset finance and four connected themes: understanding customers; the agile organisation; changing the culture of asset finance; and technology and change.
Speakers and panellists will provide not only thought-leadership, but practical, actionable examples that you can take back to your business.
The format for THINK/FORWARD is short talks and panel discussions on focused topics. Experienced and informed panel chairs and speakers will focus on both the big picture and the real detail.
Come prepared to engage in vibrant discussion and open debate on challenging ideas about the future of the industry.
OPENING SESSION/THINKING FORWARD ABOUT OUR INDUSTRY
It’s clear to everyone – and especially those entering our industry – that we are in a period of profound change. Organisational structures and culture, technology and ways of thinking are changing, and need to change. The Leasing Foundation, along with other industry bodies, should both serve the industry and promote new thinking that drives this change. Join Leasing Foundation board members Mike Randall (Simply Asset Finance) and Ian Isaac, the FLA’s Asset Finance division Chair, and FLA Director General Stephen Sklaroff, to discuss the ways that the industry is changing and how we can support that change.
What you will take away: how collaboration really can work, the key challenges, and how industry organisations can help collaborate to promote success.
what do customers want?
Modern asset finance organisations need to understand what customers really want or face being left behind by new, forward-thinking competitors.
Panel Chair and executive director of the Foundation and customer experience strategist, Professor Peter Thomas, along with guests including Peter Alderson, managing director of LDF, Andrew Denton, CEO of Alfa plc and James Lovett, Business Development Manager at Funding Circle, will discuss new ways to shape the customer experience.
What you will take away: what really works in understanding and designing the customer experience, with industry-leading examples of successful products and services.
THE AGILE ORGANISATION
Modern organisations have to be agile, fast-moving and unafraid to experiment.
Join panel chair Andrew Denton, CEO of Alfa plc, and guests including industry experts from Scania Finance and Siemens Financial Services, to discuss how agility in process, products and technologies leads to success.
What you will take away: real examples of how organisations can become agile and responsive based on case studies from the asset finance industry.
CHANGING THE CULTURE OF ASSET FINANCE
The biggest barrier to change is not technology or outdated processes, but culture – a problem faced by leaders every day.
Join panel chair Sharon Butler from Ricoh Europe, and participants in our Future Leaders programme Paul Slapa (Wesleyan), Matthew Williams (Close Brothers) and Chris Watts (Caterpillar) to hear some inside views on how culture change is necessary and inevitable in asset finance as new generations enter the industry.
What you will take away: insights into how the industry is changing, from those who are the future of the industry and how you can adapt to that change.
TECHNOLOGY AND CHANGE
The digital revolution isn’t a revolution any more – it’s business as usual. But the real value, and the real costs, of new technologies have been hard to assess in the asset finance industry.
Panel chair Gary Amos from Siemens, along with panellists 1pm CEO Ian Smith and guests, to discuss the real nature of technology in asset finance.
What you will take away: an understanding of the challenges, benefits and costs of new technologies and how the future will unfold.
CLOSING SESSION/CHALLENGES FOR THE INDUSTRY
Join in an interactive discussion led by Aldermore’s Carl D’Ammassa (Chair of the Leasing Foundation) about some of the biggest challenges the asset finance industry faces – education and training, talent pipelines, professionalism, diversity and leadership in asset finance.
DURING THE EVENT
